About Don Edward Jones
Don was born and mostly, raised in the Yakima Valley of Washington state. Now I say mostly raised, not because his parents didn't do a good job raising him (that's open to debate), but because he was born to a military father. As most of you know, that means a bit of travel. So as a young child, he lived in places like Paris, France. But mostly places like Fort Leonardwood, Missouri, Tacoma, Richland and Yakima Washington. His school age years were pretty settled. His family didn't move once Don entered the first grade.
He was born the middle child of five boys. Okay, so I see all you psychology types raising your eyebrow and going "hmmm." So, yes, you guessed it, from an early age Don was a wanderer. Off into the woods, orchards, wading and swimming in the creeks and exploring anything that had to do with the outdoors. He loved animals and was fascinated with the tadpoles, frogs, crawdads, baby birds, dogs, cats, horses, turtles, you name it.
Now while he always had a lot of friends, he'd stay outdoors long after they had all gone home. He was like that. Loved nature. Loved to just watch the bugs and critters. Loved the smell of apples growing on the trees and sounds of the creek by his home. He felt completely at home out there and didn't for a minute feel alone when the birds were singing, the frogs were croaking, or the crickets were chirping. As he grew, his love for these things and places never waned.
Because becoming an adult meant becoming "responsible," he did the school thing, the job thing and after a career of 28 years with the juvenile justice system in Washington state, he returned to his childhood. Not his childhood home, his childhood. Running around by the beach, the river and the mountains. Taking pictures of everything that amazed him and would for sure, amaze everybody else as well (he thought).
In any case, that's where you find him now. In the Pacific Northwest, one of the most beautiful places in the world (in his mind). Exploring again, and combining his love for the outdoors with his love of photography. So, when he's able to get out into the world he loves so much, he likes to share his little treasures. So enjoy his images, and if you love one, buy it. He'd be honored to know you have one hanging in your home or office. Thanks for stopping by and shoot him a note, if you'd like to discuss anything about his images or his wanderings, of if you have questions or comments. Remember to look for the beauty, because when you do, you'll always find it.
